Mauro Giuliani. Le Edizioni Girard

Edizioni Suvini Zerboni, 2019

Critical edition by Andrea Monarda

Preface by Mauro Riboni

Here published for the first time, are eighteen completely unknown opus numbers – for a total of 87 pieces – composed by Mauro Giuliani, the most important guitarist-composer of the 19th century. After the rebirth of guitar musicology, which took place between the 1970s and 1990s with the editions of complete works and selected works by 19th-century authors, this is the most important discovery for the guitar repertoire of that period.

In this book, you will find out that the six pieces of op. 139 do not report the title 24 Prime Lezioni Progressive per chitarra in four volumes and that it was not even Mauro Giuliani who gave this title to them. You will also discover that the other 18 pieces are in this volume.

The Giuliani’s style in these works is linear and brilliant; he reveals how his genius lies not only in the pieces of greater commitment and duration, but also in these little gems in which he leaves the unmistakable mark of his strong and unmistakable personality. Indispensable to complete the catalogue of the great Apulian master and to understand the style of his last years of life.
