Anyone looking for a slogan to summarize the human and artistic personality of Alessandro Solbiati would find here several phrases worthy of consideration. Though simple and colloquial, the story told in this book, the circumstances and people here mentioned are never apart from the thought which rises in the protagonist of this book as he has guided his choices and guides him in planning, always with energy and passion, his human and artistic events. One of these phrases, however, struck me more than others. It is found right at the end of the conversation with Andrea Monarda which, enriched by very knowledgeable critical essays, constitutes the main core of the volume. It can be found where Solbiati states that “the optimism of the heart is stronger than the pessimism of reason”. […] Beyond an emotional dimension and a rational dimension, Solbiati’s music often carries with it the flavor of a spirituality that has so far been expressed in relatively implicit, yet alive, forms. The theme of spirituality is not the main theme of this book but it seems that we can trace the beginnings of it. Who knows about tomorrow.
